How to Pray

Romans 8:26 “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.”  The verse speaks of the Holy Spirit and lets us know God wants to help us even if we don’t know what to pray for or how to pray for it.

The word “helpeth” is Greek for “sunantilambtoi”.  If you were to study this word you will find that it is a compound word for note two; but three words total.

  • Sun: means partnership and cooperation

2 Corinthians 6:1 “We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain.”  In Romans 8:26 “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.”

  • The word “what” is Greek for “ti” also know as the very little thing.

This talks about ignornace on prayer; prayer for the little things or even larger things but you may not miss one or the other.  We are always limitted to our views and this is why we need the Holy Spirit for prayer.  Paul also writes ” But the Spirit itself makes intercession for us.”  The worrd intersesion her may also be used as the word rescue.  In turn when you do not know how to pray be vigalent and be rescued by the Holy Spirit and allow  it to help you pray and let it pray with you.
